There was always the option to take the easier road by using a gun or crossbow, but that just didn't feel the same. He longed for the feeling of drawing back on an animal. After some ideas from the internet and help with sewing from his mom, he learns to shoot with a mouth tab. However, it was going to take more than shooting a bow to get where he wanted to be. He had to get physically ready as well. After months of lifting, running, and shooting, the time to test himself arrives. That being an archery antelope hunt in the American West. He journeys across the country with a truck, trailer, and tent to Wyoming. Despite all his preparations, hunting in unfamiliar territory would prove to be quite the test. The first couple of weeks were filled with many encounters just out of range. After these early struggles, he would have to return to the drawing board. A new game plan was created, and his prior luck appears to shift.
FILMMAKER BIO
My name is Chase Lay. I have been hunting the whitetail woods of the Midwest since I was young. Filming my hunts came naturally as my dad had been doing it long before I ever traversed the woods. Learning from him allowed me to capture some of the most exciting moments of my life on film. Every whitetail I have been blessed to arrow has been captured on video. Being able to relive these moments is almost as fun as the actual harvest. My senior year of high school would be a big setback in my hunting career, as I lost the use of my right arm due to a rare football injury. After this, I had a lot of time to reflect on what I wanted to do in life. This is when I decided to pursue my passions: the outdoors and film. So far this journey has taken me across the country on hunts in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. A long way from my home in southeastern Michigan. Although I’ve had some great moments, the best is yet to come.
