Overtime
September is the month every western bowhunter dreams about from October 1st the year prior and South Cox is no exception. Living amongst the clouds above 12,000 feet is the quarry he’d be chasing. High country mule deer, often referred to as the poor man's sheep hunt, due to the unforgiving, rough, and sheer remoteness of the basins these animals reside. South and his 14 year old daughter Sophia set out into the backcountry in search of not only a buck worthy of the taking but an adventure. This duo fought amongst severe weather, long grueling hikes, for two weeks above the clouds. After numerous stalk opportunities that left South empty handed forced his hand to return into the high country weeks later to continue the saga. Alone, cold, wet and hungry day 17 will be one South remembers for eternity.
FILMMAKER BIO
My name is Maison Steelmon. I was born and raised amongst the ag fields and rolling prairie country of northern Oklahoma. Growing up chasing whitetails with my bow led me to soon beg for more. Whenever I was 18, I began making trips out west in search of bucks and bulls wherever would allot me a tag. Two years into my journey I found the love of capturing hunts behind the lens. Running a camera on hunts not only helped me meet new people who shared the same burning passion but helped me learn different tactics strategies from some of the most influential people in the industry. Now I spend my time shooting photos and videos on various trips a year all over the country, and hunting for myself any chance I get.
